Find out why Queen Camilla wasn’t initially “keen” on having the Princess of Wales join the royal family.

There’s been speculation over the years about what Queen Camilla (formerly Camilla Parker Bowles) and the Princess of Wales’ (formerly known as Kate Middleton) relationship is really like.

There’s curiosity there because of the reports we’ve heard countless times from different sources that Camilla didn’t want Prince William to marry Kate because she was a “commoner” and she didn’t think Kate was “worthy” of marrying a future king.

Royal author Christopher Andersen told the Daily Beast: “[Camilla’s] an aristocrat, she has always been moving in royal circles. She had always thought of herself as the heiress to Alice Keppel, her great-grandmother, who was the mistress of Edward VII … She did not look at Kate as someone who was worthy of joining the royal family. Kate is the first working-class woman to be accepted into the royal family. She is descended from coal miners and her mother was a flight attendant.”

But now we’re hearing that there was more than one reason Camilla wasn’t “keen” about Kate at first and neither have to do with her background.

Why Camilla didn’t think Kate would fit in with the family

King Charles’ wife reportedly wasn’t jumping for joy about Kate becoming her stepdaughter-in-law before the princess married William and that’s because Kate didn’t have any interest in two things other royals did.

Express noted that in the documentary The Middleton’s: Modern Royal-in-laws commentator Tom Quinn revealed: “I’d heard that Camilla wasn’t very keen on Catherine” because “she didn’t shoot [and] she’s not into horses particularly.”

Quinn went on to say that the current queen thought “there was too much of a gap and William would feel it.”

Royal editor Charlotte Griffiths offered a reason as to why Kate isn’t a fan of horses like the other royal women pointing out: “Catherine doesn’t like riding. I think she’s allergic to them.”

Today, it’s believed that Queen Camilla and the Princess of Wales have a good relationship as Camilla has come to recognize that Kate is a lot like her in the sense that she takes her job, her duty, and her loyalty to her husband very seriously.

Quinn opined: “I think it’s true to say that Camilla warmed to Catherine and recognized her solid virtues.”

Royal commentator Angela Levin agreed telling GB News: “Camilla gets on very, very well with Catherine and helped her to understand the way you needed to be in the Palace because it’s very difficult.”

It’s also thought that another thing that brought the ladies even closer is when each of them had to step up to fill voids after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle left. Kate is also said to be very appreciative of how much Camilla did and how hard she worked while she and King Charles were out of commission receiving treatment for cancer.
