Kate Middleton Has an New Unusual Hobby That Her Kids Find ‘Fascinating’

Royal family

Kate Middleton might come off as the type who doesn’t like to get dirty, but the princess actually spends tons of time outdoors — and she’s taken on an interesting new hobby.

Kate Middleton is nothing short of elegant, but that doesn’t mean she can’t get her hands dirty every once in a while. Although the princess lives a life full of expensive clothes and plenty of security, when she’s on her own, she loves being outside.

The princess’ love for the outdoors has always been apparent. She and William often take the family on vacations where they can enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking and skiing. Now, the Princess of Wales has taken on a whole new outdoor hobby that, while not totally uncommon, is one her kids hadn’t seen before.

Kate Middleton has become a forager

Kate and her husband, Prince William, have always been foodies. The two have shared that they enjoy the occasional takeout when they want to unwind, and they like cooking with their three children as a way of bonding. But Kate has also taken to finding her own food — not just cooking it. The princess has recently picked up a foraging hobby, where she actually tracks down her own food in the wild. Mushrooms are a common food for foragers, and Kate mentioned during a recent royal engagement that she found a “fascinating” mushroom.

While visiting a community garden alongside William during the couple’s recent trip to Wales, Kate was chatting with children about her new foraging hobby. She mentioned that she now forages when she visits Norfolk, which is a popular vacation spot for her and William (their Anmer Hall home is located there). Kate revealed that she had recently found a “huge” puffball mushroom while out foraging. “The children thought it was fascinating,” she said, according to Express.

Foraging is a great hobby, but it’s also important to understand what’s safe to eat from the wild and what isn’t. Certain seeds, berries, and fungi can be extremely dangerous to humans if consumed, so Kate has to make sure she’s careful about what she finds and eats.

Kate Middleton has returned to a standard royal schedule

The Princess of Wales took time off in 2024 to focus on her health, and she missed most of the year as far as completing royal engagements. Kate made occasional appearances, such as attending Wimbledon and Trooping the Colour, but it wasn’t until 2025 that the princess made a full royal return.

At the start of 2025, it wasn’t clear what Kate’s schedule would look like going into the new year. However, the princess appears to be back to standard royal duties, as she has taken on a number of engagements since returning to work. Still, William and Kate continue to put their children first and strike a balance between their duties as future king and queen and their duties as parents.
