Judge Denies State’s Move to Block Conditional Release of Slender Man Stabber

A Wisconsin judge declined Thursday to block the conditional release of a woman who was 12 when she stabbed a classmate to appease the fictional character Slender Man in 2014.

Judge Michael Bohren ruled in January that Morgan Geyser, now 22, could be released, but prosecutors tried last week to block her release, saying her drawings and the books she read were troubling, WISN reported.

Geyser’s attorney countered that none of the information the state presented was new material.

“You’re also aware of the fact that Ms. Geyser has been drawing disturbing things for a long time, and Dr. Lumbaugh was aware of that when she suggested that Morgan was appropriate to be released, aren’t you?” Anthony Cotton asked state’s witness Nicole Whitaker of Wisconsin Community Services.

“That’s the report,” Whittaker replied.

This is not new. Her doing the disturbing drawings is not a new fact at all. Agreed?” Cotton asked, and Whittaker agreed.

The disturbing book she was accused of reading was a Stephen King novel.

The judge still needs to review the release plan, which was delayed by the state’s move to prevent the release. Her next hearing is scheduled for March 21.

Once released, Geyser will go to a group home where her release will be supervised.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, Geyser received a 40-year confinement to a mental health facility after a jury found her not guilty by reason of insanity after stabbing her friend, Payton Leutner, in 2014. Leutner survived the attack.

Geyser and Anissa Weier confessed to the attack. Weier was also found not guilty by reason of insanity and sentenced to 25 years in a mental health facility. She was released in 2021.
