A strike force investigation is under way into the suspicious death of an eight-year-old boy in Tamworth in north-east New South Wales.

Officers were called to a home in Moore Creek about 6.30pm yesterday after the child was found unresponsive.

Family members tried to resuscitate the boy before paramedics rushed him to Tamworth Base Hospital, where he was unable to be revived.

Strike Force Fitzgerald, comprised of local officers and the state’s homicide squad, has been established to investigate his death.

A post-mortem examination is expected in the coming days to determine the cause of death.

Investigations are continuing.
