Upstate New York High School Teacher Charged With Raping Student

An upstate New York teacher has been charged with raping a student following an extensive investigation after allegations stemming from an incident in December.

David W. Porter, 66, was charged with raping a child under the age of 17 and released from jail on his own recognizance on Saturday, according to WHAM. The court did issue an order of protection against him for the child.

Prosecutors strenuously objected to the lack of bail but were ignored by the court, FingerLakes1.com reported. The incident did not apparently take place on school property, officials said.

Victor Central Schools immediately placed Porter on leave and is seeking the suspension of his teaching credentials, WHAM said.

“These circumstances are distressing,” said Victor Central Schools Superintendent Dr. Timothy Terranova. “The safety and well-being of our school community is of the highest importance. Additional support and resources will be available on Monday for students and staff. If you or your child are in need of immediate support, please contact your child’s principal. The school will send out information as law enforcement allows.”

Terranova also said the district is fully cooperating with investigators, who said the victim was not currently enrolled in any of Porter’s classes.

Porter is due in court on March 4.

Investigators asked anyone with information about the case or similar incidents involving Porter to contact Investigator Dylan LaBrake at (585) 394-4560.
