A motorcyclist has died after colliding with a car at a busy intersection in Melbourne.

The rider collided with a Mazda at the intersection of Gourlay Road and Kirribilli Avenue in Taylors Hill, in the city’s north-west, just after 6pm on Friday. 

The male rider, who is yet to be formally identified, died at the scene. 

In photos from the scene, debris is seen strewn across the intersection.  

The female driver of a silver Mazda is currently being interviewed by detectives. 

It’s understood the car had green P-plates on it. 

Victoria Police said the circumstances of the fatal crash were still unclear and that an investigation had been launched. 

Anyone with information or any CCTV or dashcam footage of the crash have been urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
