A thrifter found a designer wedding gown that was featured in ‘Sex and the City: The Movie.’ She plans to sell it to fund her divorce.
Sex and the City was about love, sex, friendship, and, ultimately, fashion. The looks of Carrie Bradshaw, Samantha Jones, Charlotte York, and Miranda Hobbes have been heavily debated for decades. Carrie Bradshaw’s wedding looks were heavily discussed, too. Because fans were so focused on their favorite characters’ fashion choices, it is easy to recognize some of their most famous looks. That’s what happened with one Poshmark reseller who found a wedding look that Carrie almost wore while shopping at a thrift store.
Carrie Bradshaw’s Vera Wang wedding gown surfaces at a thrift store
In the 2008 movie Sex and the City: The Movie, Carrie wore several bridal looks. A Poshmark reseller named Ashley Cano found one of those looks while shopping around at a thrift store. The reseller uploaded a video to TikTok to explain that she had happened upon the frilly Vera Wang gown that Carrie donned in the film. The best part of it all was the price. While the gown is worth more than $3,000, she was able to snag it for just $19. Followers hoped Cano would walk down the aisle in the gown, but it’s not meant to be.
In a funny incident of life imitating art, the reseller doesn’t have a ton of use for the dress herself. At least, not when it comes to walking down the aisle in it. According to the New York Post, Cano insisted that the dress, which is a size 4, would never fit her, and she has no plans on getting married right now. In fact, proceeds from the sale of the gown will actually be helping to pay her divorce lawyer.
What dress did Carrie Bradshaw actually wear?
While the Vera Wang gown that Cano snagged at a thrift shop is gorgeous, it isn’t the dress that Carrie almost wore to marry Mr. Big. Instead, the gown is one of several she tried on during a photoshoot for Vogue. In the movie scene, Carrie wore wedding gowns by Wang, Carolina Herrera, Christian Lacroix, Lanvin, Dior, Oscar de la Renta, and Vivienne Westwood.
In the end, Carrie was gifted the Vivienne Westwood gown and planned to wear it to say I do, but the wedding was canceled. She later married Mr. Big in a designer-less white suit. The Vivienne Westwood gown did appear once in And Just Like That…, though. Finding that dress, valued at almost $10,000 when new, might be a taller order. Still, similar dresses are being sold.
