A 1-year-old boy fell into a bucket of bleach water for long enough for him to lose consciousness, Iowa authorities say.

Now his parents, 3o-year-old Scott Marcov and 28-year-old Madelyn Marcov, stand accused of neglect of a dependent person and child endangerment while causing serious injury, according to court records.

The incident in question occurred at the family’s home in Dubuque on Oct. 1. Law&Crime obtained a criminal complaint from the Dubuque Police Department that said one of the Marcov children ran to the living room holding the infant and yelling that he was unconscious. He had been in the bleach water for an “undisclosed amount of time,” the affidavit said. Madelyn Marcov called 911.

Paramedics responded and rushed the boy to the hospital. He reportedly “suffered acute respiratory failure and loss of consciousness.” Doctors at Finley Hospital treated the boy before transferring him to University of Iowa hospital for more specialized care.
