A 15-year-old Texas boy has been arrested after he shot his mother and sister multiple times and blamed it on “a bunch of edibles” he ate.

The mother and the boy’s 17-year-old sister were in “very critical” condition after the shooting Houston Police Lt. JP Horelica said, according to KHOU.

Police said the boy called 911 and said he was either going to kill someone or himself. When the dispatcher called back to the home, the mom answered and said there was nothing going on and she didn’t know anything about what the boy said.

Officers arrived at the home after 11 p.m. Saturday night. Firefighters arrived first, and the boy pointed a gun at them, said he’d just killed someone, then tossed the gun down and ran off.

Police chased him down and took him into custody. They found the two victims inside the home. A 16-year-old sister was not shot.

“[The officers] found out that the 15-year-old suspect had just eaten a bunch of edibles and I guess had a bad reaction to them, at which point he ended up using that gun and shooting his mother multiple times in the back and shooting one of his sisters multiple times,” said Horelica.

According to KTRK, police said the boy, one of his sisters, and an adult ate the THC edibles, although they did not say who gave them that information. The suspect reacted badly and called for an ambulance, while the others tried to calm him down. They also began to laugh at him, which prompted him to get the gun, police said.

Police said the boy was taken to a hospital for observation and will face charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault of a family member.

The identities of the suspect and the victims have not been released.
