A body has been recovered after a man in his late sixties failed to return to shore following a dip at a popular NSW beach.

Emergency services were called to Bluff Beach on the state’s Far North Coast shortly before 6pm on Friday amid reports a 68-year-old man had failed to return to shore after entering the surf.

A multi-agency search, involving helicopters, boats and surf lifesavers, was launched.

But about 7.30am on Saturday officers found the man’s body.

A report will be prepared for the information of the coroner.
